Chapter 5 Diary
Chapter 5 Diary
Early morning, just as dawn was breaking.
Xia Xue picked up her suitcase and opened the door.
She didn't know how to say goodbye, so she simply skipped that step.
She placed the note she had written in advance on the dining table, and thoughtfully weighed it down with a transparent water glass in case it was blown to the ground by the wind.
"Splash splash splash".
Xia Xue pulled her suitcase, the wheels making a rhythmic noise against the floor.
As Xia Xue approached the door, she heard a noise, paused for a moment, but ultimately said nothing and did nothing. She resolutely opened the door, picked up her luggage without looking back, and went downstairs.
She walked along the path she had walked countless times, but today it felt unusually long, until she arrived at the gate of the residential area she passed by several times every day.
Before she could make a call, a black sedan slowly pulled up in front of her.
Xia Xue raised an eyebrow.
She didn't inform me beforehand.
It seems that either the car didn't return yesterday at all, or it arrived very early this morning.
The passenger door opened, and a burly young man in a black suit stepped forward and said respectfully, "Miss, let me help you with your luggage."
Xia Xue handed him the suitcase, opened the car door, and was about to get in when she sensed something. She turned to look in the direction of home, and after a moment, she looked away, got into the car, and slammed the door shut.
With a bang.
It seemed to mark the end of this silent farewell.
The car slowly drove into the night and disappeared from sight. Shen Wanyi, who had been standing by the window staring intently at Xia Xue's back, could no longer hold back and began to sob.
"My daughter, whom I raised for eighteen years, is gone just like that."
Standing by the window, Xia Yun gently held Shen Wanyi in his arms, his eyes filled with melancholy.
After breakfast, Xia Yun had already gone to work. Shen Wanyi sat on the sofa, sitting blankly for a long time, as if sleepwalking. She got up and went to the door of Xia Xue's bedroom, stood there blankly for a long time again, and then slowly opened the door.
The room was very clean and tidy this time.
But this brought tears to Shen Wanyi's eyes again.
She would rather the room remained as messy as it was before, and she so wished that when she opened the door, her daughter would still be sleeping in bed.
Shen Wanyi gently stroked every inch of her daughter's room.
She slowly sat on the bed, her gaze naturally falling on the diary on the bedside table.
Suddenly, Shen Wanyi thought of something, grabbed the diary with lightning speed, and with trembling hands, gently opened her daughter's diary.
"Mom scolded me again. I can't do anything right. I'm such a useless person."
"I didn't meet my mother's expectations again. I'm so stupid. I wish I were smarter."
"I tried so hard to meet my mom's expectations, but she still scolded me. I feel so bad, I don't know what to do."
"I wish I weren't my mother's daughter."
"Standing at the entrance of the residential compound, I hesitated to move. I didn't want to go home."
"I feel so stifled at home, I want to run away."
"I tried it. Running away from home is so scary. I came back. I'm such a coward."
"I'm sick. The doctor said I have depression. She told me to notify my parents, but I didn't dare. I paid an actor to help me. The doctor prescribed a lot of medication for me."
"I can't sleep."
"I can't sleep."
"The doctor prescribed me sleeping pills, ah, I finally fell asleep."
"I'm in so much pain, I want to die. I'm lying in the bathroom, gently cutting my wrists with a knife. Ah, it hurts so much. I'm afraid of pain, I don't dare to cut my wrists to commit suicide. I'm such a coward."
"I stood on the school balcony, looking down at the crowd below. I'm afraid of heights, and I hesitated to jump. I'm so useless, I can't even jump from a building."
"I've thought of a way, a great way that won't hurt or make me afraid of heights. Hehe, I can finally leave. Goodbye, my world."
Shen Wanyi's hands trembled, and the diary fell to the ground without her noticing.
Her eyes trembled, her lips quivered, and she let out a hoarse roar from her throat.
"No, this isn't real, it's not real."
She shook her head frantically.
"My daughter was perfectly fine, how could she have committed suicide?"
Scenes of her time with her daughter flashed through her mind, and suddenly, she trembled as if she had discovered a shocking and unbelievable truth.
"Could it be..."
She quickly picked up the diary from the ground and turned to the last entry.
"That day three months ago..."
Shen Wanyi instantly recalled the scene from that day.
"Why are you back so late? What have you been doing? What's with that expression? Don't you recognize your mother? Let me tell you, even if you don't, I'm still your mother. Hurry up and eat, then do your homework."
As she spoke, Shen Wanyi pressed down on Xia Xue's schoolbag, expertly took out the test paper from it, and scolded as she flipped through it: "How many times have you done this question? You still get it wrong. What are you good for?"
Xia Xue didn't explain that time; she just watched her quietly.
No, it should be said that Xia Xue has not explained a single word to her since that day three months ago.
Not only that, Xia Xue's many habits, and even her personality, have undergone earth-shattering changes.
Some of his behaviors are even like a boy's.
Xia Xue began to ignore her, talk back to her, and try to avoid her. She was no longer as obedient and well-behaved as before.
However, their grades have improved significantly.
With the college entrance exam just around the corner, she ultimately chose to remain silent for the sake of her daughter's grades, turning a blind eye to the unusual occurrences.
She thought it was just her daughter's teenage rebellion and that it would pass in time.
Now it seems...
"I should have thought of that sooner."
Shen Wanyi's face was full of pain.
"She and he must be Xiaoxue's second personality."
He must have awakened when Xia Xue was at her lowest point of despair.
She took Xia Xue's place and lived in this world that made her feel depressed and painful.
"My little Xue."
Shen Wanyi looked like a mother wolf who had lost her cubs, clutching her diary and howling in grief.
It was as if she was about to cry her heart, liver, spleen, lungs, and kidneys out of her throat.
Worried, Xia Yun didn't eat lunch at the company cafeteria and rushed home, only to hear this crying as soon as she entered the door.
Startled, he didn't even realize he'd dropped his briefcase. He staggered into Xia Xue's bedroom and hugged Shen Wanyi tightly.
"What's wrong? Missing your daughter? Yes, we can go see her. Didn't they say they wouldn't stop us from visiting Xiaoxue?"
Shen Wanyi's wailing grew even louder.
"I don't want this, my daughter is dead, dead, sob sob..."
Xia Yun, her eyes red, gently patted Shen Wanyi's back.
"Okay, okay, let's just pretend she's dead."
Shen Wanyi screamed, "It's not a lie, it's a real death!"
As she spoke, Shen Wanyi handed the diary to Xia Yun.
Xia Yun flipped through a few pages with a puzzled look, then her face showed shock. She quickly flipped to the last page and it took her a long time to come back to her senses.
"So, our daughter now is no longer the daughter we raised for eighteen years. Then, who is she/he? A second personality?"
Xia Yun and Shen Wanyi are indeed a couple who have been married for many years.
We were thinking the same thing.
Xia Yun collapsed to the ground.
"We should look on the bright side. Our daughter's body is still alive, so her dominant personality shouldn't have disappeared yet. She can still be saved."
Shen Wanyi's eyes lit up, as if she had regained her vitality. She suddenly stood up and said, "Yes, yes, let's go find a doctor to treat Xiaoxue."
Suddenly, Xia Yun thought of something and quickly grabbed Shen Wanyi.
"No, you can't! You've forgotten, she's now a wealthy heiress, the daughter of Jiangcheng's richest man. If this gets exposed, have you thought about the consequences?"
Shen Wanyi looked at Xia Yun in disbelief.
"Old Xia, that's our daughter whom we've raised for eighteen years. Just because you're afraid of the wealthy Xia family, you're going to hide Xiaoxue's illness and refuse to treat her. Do you have no heart at all?"
Xia Yun, her eyes red, growled, "I have no heart. I have no heart, so I wouldn't have stopped you. I should have just watched you go to your death. What kind of family is the Xia family? They're a powerful and wealthy family! What are we? Just ordinary people. For them, crushing us is no different than crushing an ant. If they find out that we raised their own daughter to be mentally ill, do you believe I could find a thousand ways to kill us?"
This was the first time Shen Wanyi had seen Xia Yun in such a terrifying state. She shrank back and stammered, "Then, what do you suggest we do?"
Xia Yun pondered for a long time before saying, "This matter needs to be considered carefully. Don't worry about it. Just leave this diary with me for now, and pretend you've never seen it."
After saying that, Xia Yun hurriedly left with the diary.
"How is this possible?" Shen Wanyi slumped to the ground, muttering repeatedly, "I clearly saw it, how could I pretend I didn't see it? My daughter was clearly in so much pain, and I didn't even notice. I'm such a failure as a mother, I don't deserve to be a mother..."
The midday sun was blocked out of the window by the thick curtains. Although it was sunny and clear outside, the room was cold and gloomy.
