Chapter 7 Music Sharing Session
Chapter 7 Music Sharing Session
Saturday night.
A hand-drawn poster is displayed at the entrance of the multi-functional hall in the student activity center. It reads "Sichuan University of Technology Digital Music Club · Autumn New Sounds Music Sharing Session", with a few simple musical notes and a guitar drawn next to it.
Li Hao's cooking may look rough, but it has a certain charm.
The multi-purpose hall is much more spacious than a regular classroom, with a small stage at the front. A piano stands on one side of the stage. Below the stage are rows of folding chairs that can seat about a hundred people.
The venue was booked by Lin Feng through Chen Tao, the head of the arts and culture department of the school's student union.
As the event drew near, the multi-functional hall gradually became lively.
Members of the digital music club arrived one after another, including long-time members who had bought MP3s and new faces who were simply drawn by the music.
Some were holding notebooks, preparing to write down the song list, while others were whispering and discussing what songs they would share tonight.
Shen Jingyi sat in the front row, near the edge, holding a wooden guitar in her arms. Today she was wearing a beige sweater, her long hair cascading down her shoulders, revealing her clean and delicate profile.
Occasionally, boys would steal glances at her, but she would just keep her head down, focused on the sheet music in her hands.
Wang Peng was in charge of adjusting the sound equipment. Two speaker wires were laid along the edge of the carpet and connected to the speakers on both sides of the stage.
"How's the sound quality?" Lin Feng asked.
Wang Peng patted his chest and said, "It's been tested, no problem."
At 7:00 AM sharp, the multi-functional hall was already full of people, and the event officially began.
Lin Feng walked to the front of the stage with a microphone in his hand.
"Good evening, everyone. I am Lin Feng, a senior in the Department of Electrical Engineering, and the founder of the Sichuan University of Technology Digital Music Club."
Thank you all for attending this session of the Digital Music Club's music sharing event. Tonight, our event is divided into two parts.
The first half was about listening to music and discussing it; the second half was about sharing knowledge about using digital products.
Lin Feng's gaze swept across the audience: "Without further ado, first of all, please welcome our club's musical prodigy, Shen Jingyi, to play one of her original pieces for everyone."
Lin Feng turned to the side and gestured "please" towards Shen Jingyi.
Applause erupted. Shen Jingyi, holding her guitar, walked to the center of the small stage and sat down on the chair that Lin Feng had brought over.
She adjusted the microphone stand, looked down at the strings, took a deep breath, and then looked up.
"Hello everyone, I'm Shen Jingyi, a freshman in the music department." Her big eyes and sweet voice immediately attracted the attention of many boys.
"Today I want to share a song I wrote myself, called 'Autumn Letter.' Please forgive me if it's not well-written." After saying that, she gently bit her lower lip and her fingers lightly touched the strings.
The multi-purpose hall quieted down.
The intro was a simple chord progression, carrying the melancholy unique to autumn. Then she began to sing:
"The fallen sycamore leaves are scattered all over the ground, like the letters you wrote, blown away by the wind..."
Everyone in the hall listened quietly, some with their eyes slightly closed, others nodding gently in rhythm.
Lin Feng leaned against the wall, watching the girl on stage who was focused on singing.
Shen Jingyi's musical talent was even better than he had expected. Although the song was still somewhat immature, it was full of inspiration.
He was enjoying the tranquil music when he caught a glimpse of the multi-functional hall door being pushed open out of the corner of his eye.
Four figures slipped in, one of whom was Zhou Yang.
Zhou Yang deliberately chose a spot diagonally opposite the stage, where he could clearly see Lin Feng's expression. He was also holding a can of cola, which he was slowly sipping.
After Shen Jingyi finished singing a song, enthusiastic applause rang out in the multi-functional hall. She stood up shyly and bowed to everyone.
Lin Feng returned to the small stage to prepare for the next performance.
Just then!
"Wait a minute!" a voice suddenly rang out.
At Zhou Yang's instruction, Liu Wei stood up from the back row and held a silver MP3 player high in his hand.
Lin Feng looked in Liu Wei's direction: "Hey classmate, what's up?"
"President, please explain to everyone what's going on with these counterfeit and substandard products you're selling!" Liu Wei's voice was loud, deliberately making sure everyone could hear.
The sudden turn of events immediately sparked a flurry of discussion in the multi-functional hall.
Before anyone could react, Zhang Qiang and Li Lei stood up, each holding an MP3 player, and shouted loudly:
"My machine broke after listening to it twice! It won't turn on!"
"Refund! Refund immediately! Boss, this is fraud!"
The three of them sang in unison, and the murmurs in the hall grew louder and louder.
"What happened?"
"No way, mine hasn't had any problems yet..."
"Isn't that Liu Wei? From the Computer Science Department..."
Zhou Yang leaned back in his chair, a wide smile on his face, and took a sip of his cola with great satisfaction.
He was so happy he wanted to light a cigarette right then and there to celebrate.
The new members of the music club looked at each other, while the older members also showed worried expressions. Some looked down at their MP3 players, checking if they could be turned on.
Shen Jingyi, holding her guitar, stood by the small stage, looking at Lin Feng with a helpless expression.
Li Hao and Wang Peng were ashen-faced and wanted to rush forward to argue, but Lin Feng stopped them.
Lin Feng stood still, holding the microphone and calmly began to speak:
"Three students, this is a music sharing session, a club activity. For after-sales issues, please contact me privately following the procedure provided at the time of purchase."
"Don't give me that!" Liu Wei said arrogantly. "President Lin, you sold us counterfeit and substandard products in the name of the club! Now, explain yourself in front of everyone! You dared to sell them but don't want to admit it?"
He held up the MP3 player in his hand, turned to the entire audience, and raised his voice even higher: "Look everyone! This is the stuff the Digital Music Club sells! Counterfeit, refurbished goods! It'll break after a few days! I think it's just a gimmick to trick people into joining the club!"
Zhang Qiang immediately chimed in, "That's right! We're here today to demand an explanation! The MP3 players you sold are substandard products! We want a refund! A refund right now!"
"Refund! Refund!" Li Lei shouted along.
As the saying goes, "three men can make a tiger," which is extremely inflammatory. Many students who were unaware of the truth began to waver, and the voices of doubt grew louder.
"Is there really a quality problem?"
"I just bought it a few days ago... what should I do?"
"No-name brands are definitely unreliable..."
"Quiet down, everyone! Please listen to me." Lin Feng raised his hands and made a "quiet" gesture.
All eyes were on him, eager to see how he, as the president, would explain himself.
"Since the three of you insist on discussing product quality issues during a club activity, and many club members and students present today own or plan to purchase digital products, then let's move the planned second half of the 'Digital Product Usage Basics' lecture forward to now."
He turned to Wang Peng and said, "Da Peng, bring me the toolbox I prepared."
Wang Peng immediately realized what was happening and pulled a tool bag out from under his seat.
Li Hao moved a table onto the small stage.
Lin Feng took the tool bag and unzipped it. Inside were tools such as a multimeter, soldering iron, screwdriver, and tweezers.
"Hey students, bring your MP3 players over for a look."
What?
Didn't you want a refund?
Lin Feng announced calmly:
"Dear students, today I will use the problems encountered by these three students as a case study for demonstration. This may be more helpful for everyone in using digital products correctly in the future."
Liu Wei and the other two were a little confused, and their expressions changed.
This was different from what Zhou Yang had anticipated. According to the plan, they should have already incited public anger, leaving Lin Feng in a situation where he couldn't defend himself.
But now, Lin Feng has turned this "rights protection" into a "public lesson" with just a few words.
Since they came to protect their rights, Liu Wei and the others couldn't hide the faulty MP3 player and had to obediently hand it over.
